Reliable Method Of Defense When Visiting A Brand New City

By Sasha X Urech

I certainly not knew precisely how close I came to landing in prison. I was going to New York City in just a couple of days and the anticipation was killing me. For starters, I would be visiting my boyfriend which was a freshman at NYU. Second of all, I would be visiting the Big Apple for the very first time.

I displayed with pride my fresh pepper spray I got on the internet to my cousin, Cathy. She used to reside in NYC. I wanted her to quit worrying regarding me. I knew about the high crime rate there and was not heading out unprepared. Instead, she seemed terrified. She said I could get arrested in New York if I didn't know my defense spray laws.

I researched on the web at the regulations for getting and also carrying pepper sprays. Cathy was right. You are able to only buy self defense spray in New York from licensed firearms sellers or licensed pharmacists. You also need to be at least eighteen years old and possess a clean record (not a problem for me).

This is basically the same story within Massachusetts. You can get self defense spray from accredited firearms traders only within that state, and you need to have a valid firearms identification card.

Michigan allows pepper spray but its greatest oleoresin capsicum concentration should be 10 %. It could simply be used to provide protection to individuals or property when physical force is justified.

I could bring my self defense spray along with me to Wisconsin but not tear gas. Much like within Michigan, self defense spray having an OC concentration of more than 10 % is prohibited.

Wisconsin lets you carry only half oz. to 2 oz. defense sprays, which need to have a safety mechanism versus accidental firing. Maximum range can't go over 20 feet and can't dip less than 6 feet, either.

I had a lot of fun in New York visiting my boyfriend. I thanked Cathy for informing me to look for pepper spray laws and thus helping keep my stay in NYC from turning into a nightmare (like hers, only different).
