Major Squeeze Page Blunders That Cost You Money

By Cherryl Niedens

Your landing page is possibly the most crucial page of your business web site. It will be the first page that your traffic will see as it flows in to your web site. That's where you put the groundwork you need to meet your objectives. So what is it, precisely?

Landing pages are generally anything that you would like them to be. You can use the page to gather email addresses before letting someone into your site to see the content. You can make it your sales page. You can have it be the first page of your blog. It is the page that you send website visitors to as an introduction to whatever your project is about. There is certainly no restriction to your flexibility. This implies that there is also a great deal of room in which you can make a lot of mistakes. Keep reading to learn what some of the bigger mistakes there are to make with your webpage and the ways that you can avoid making them.

1. Making a wreck of your headline. Your title (or your headline) must be able to grab your traffic's curiosity. Headline and title writing are quite complicated. If you've got the budget for it, you need to hire a skilled copywriter to do this part of you. You'll want to keep your title/headline as to the point as possible but it also has to be descriptive and compelling. If your traffic doesn't find your headline readable, you won't see them moving on to the remainder of your content. They are going to simply click away from the webpage. So do your best to get it right.

2. Lots of people are now building squeeze pages that appear and work just like every other webpage on their web sites. It's fine to do this when your site is a personal blog since that's typically the first page of your blog anyway. As a business, though, it helps to use a completely different structure and design to help get people's interest.

3. You should not try to do far too much on your landing page. Your landing page should really only have one purpose at a time. You get to choose what that purpose is. If the goal is to build up your list, your entire squeeze page needs to be about obtaining people's information. If the goal is to offer a product, your landing page has to center on that. If you ask too much of the traffic flowing in to your webpage, all that will happen is that they will end up getting confused. You're going to see a decrease in your conversion ratio since your traffic isn't going to know what they must be doing first. All that happens then is that they will click away.

4. Do not forget about basic design principles. For whatever reason, people believe that a squeeze page must be loud and fancy to ensure success. Never cave in to this, however tempting it might feel. If you're not certain what to do with regards to a design, hire a professional designer to help you out.

Just keep working. Never let yourself be lazy in terms of your landing page. Continue to keep working away at it!
