What it Takes to Succeed With Mobile Marketing

By Michael Aguirre

If you have no experience with it, you might think that mobile marketing is mysterious and complex. The truth is that mobile marketing does not have to be that difficult; in some respects, it's almost too easy. The simplest comparison would be to marketing via email, except your messages are sent in text message format rather than as emails. There are many advantages to using this type of marketing, as just about everybody walks around with a mobile phone nowadays. Now is the best time to start your mobile marketing business, and we'll be giving you some useful tips to make it easier for you to succeed.

Guarantee that you have allocated a space on the opt-in form for the person's cell phone number. Everybody knows that. Plus, it is tremendously important that you provide an opt-in within your opt-in that lets the individual select to either receive or not receive text messages from you. You can make some hindrances for the person hasn't agreed to you sending them marketing messages in this manner and you go ahead and do it anyway. For that reason, you always need to get the "go ahead" from the recipient. Keep in mind that some people don't pay extra for unlimited texting plans. You don't want to be responsible for their phone bills skyrocketing.

Make use of the opt-in form for everything. It might be tempting to have two opt-in lists just to keep everything separate and equal and easier to track. Of course, if you opt for this, you won't get nearly as many opt-ins. You may end up getting plenty of email, although you won't get much in the means of mobile marketing. Instead, use a single permission based form. People will be less likely to share details with you if you ask them for it multiple times. They just kind of go into auto-pilot when filling things out. To avoid alienating them, however, make sure that giving you their mobile number is optional, not mandatory and that there is a permission box for mobile marketing that they have to check.

Similar to marketing through email, you should send a confirmation message as soon as an individual opts into your mobile marketing list. This is an imperative move and there are lots of services you can use that will set this up for you. You should ask them "yes" or "no" to marketing messages via text, the moment they opt in to your list, by forwarding them a text message. Be very observant of the choice they make and abide to it. Be sure that you remove them from your text marketing list right away, if they opt-back out of the service. You don't want people deeming you as a spammer!

There are a variety of elements to consider if you want your mobile marketing campaigns to succeed. While the above guidelines are quite useful, they're just the beginning. One advantage to getting into such a new type of business is that the playing field is fairly level, and nobody has all of the answers. Even if you're a newbie at this, you can get up to speed quite fast. You only have to be ready to do some research and experimenting, and you can be a mobile marketing pioneer!
