Marketing Via the Internet

By Erin O'breen

There is always a proper way to do things in the world of business, that includes the aspect of internet marketing, to ensure that an enterprise, regardless of its size will become competitive. Given the need to drive sales in today's environment and the importance of word of mouth marketing, there is an enormous opportunity for small businesses to generate positive word of mouth via online marketing.

Marketing styles of businesses have been changed in the present times as behaviours of buyers have already transformed due to the ever growing popularity of internet, but the problem is, their marketing techniques are not properly fit to be competitive in the virtual world. Most of the time, business owners try to engage themselves in internet marketing without clear executable plans and strategies. They normally implement several marketing measures without sticking to a particular method and then disregard some or the whole thing if they have not reached their desired results in a short span of time. To make things easier, they opt to look for an individual or agency to do the implementation of online marketing for them; unfortunately the desired outcome is not being achieved and they are not even being taught how to become successful in the virtual world.

You will notice that a big chunk of advertising budgets of business owners is now being expended into online marketing rather than spending it in the outdated methods of traditional marketing because of the many advantages that the former is offering. This movement from traditional marketing to online marketing crosses all business sizes and channels.

Internet marketing normally provides benefits that start from the opportunities being offered in the online world. Internet users who enjoy minimal cost of high speed internet services are now accessing the virtual world primarily to do online purchasing or conduct research before doing such.

Enormous Market Growth

Accessing the online world gives more convenience especially now that even smartphones could be utilized to access the internet flawlessly and their manufacturers are exerting every effort for the development of this new technology which is also useful in online marketing. In other words, buying online will get even easier and more convenient. If you would hear somebody who runs his enterprise saying that internet marketing is somewhat expensive and could not be afforded, he actually refers to not seeing the value of this innovative way of marketing. We are not criticizing those business owners based on their perception of online marketing as they might have been adversely astounded by unclear messages as to how they could actually benefit in the online arena. But make no mistake, there is no denying the value of a properly organized internet marketing plan.

As you may know, we can break internet marketing in three general groupings or categories: 1) traffic, 2) translations or conversions, 3) tracking of useful data and reporting. Traffic can be called many things, but what it generally refers to is potential customers actually visiting your website. The three most common methods for creating or driving traffic are through organic search, paid search, and social media channels.

Conversions refer to a potential customer taking an appropriate action at your website. Visitor action may vary from a level that is low such as visiting different web pages in your site, to a higher one such as making an actual procurement or at least filling out some e-forms.

Tracking of important data (fact and figures) and reporting is the basic element of any marketing method on the net. Absence of data would mean travelling without a direction. The level of data tracking and reporting that is available in the online marketing space is unmatched. Tracking is unparalleled and there is no old-style marketing technique that can be compared with it.
