Understanding And Recognizing Domestic Abuse

By Jayne Rutledge

One of worst problems that society is facing today is the act of domestic abuse which is alarmingly increasing increasing in rate. People who carry out these abusive acts use all kinds of acts like physical abuse, threats, guilt, or blackmail in order to be on top of their partners. The very first step to stopping such acts like these would be to first understand what they are and recognize them.

The thing about spousal violence is that it may happen to anyone regardless of age, sex, and race. Many people believe that it is only the men who would do this to their wives but what many do not know is that women are also known to do these shameless acts to their husbands but in a different form. This means that abusive behavior sees no discrimination at all.

One thing to always remember is that this type of behavior is not something that would just come out of nowhere the next second. This type of characteristic would actually come in small steps and would come gradually. From the small belittling comments, one may actually start humiliating his or her partner by making use of hurtful words.

Now from these small little hurtful words, forms of violence like physical violence may spring out. From little slaps to the faces or arms, more violent hits may actually come up. If the dominating spouse is not told off, then he or she may actually go as far as hitting the subdued one or even resort to scratching.

Of course there is something that is definitely very uncalled for which is known as sexual abuse. Now of course it is the men who are more likely to do this instead of the women. This is a form of rape wherein the man would actually force his spouse to have sex with him in a way that could actually hurt her or injure her.

One of the most common signs of being a victim of abusive behavior from a spouse would actually be fear of the spouse. If one is evidently scared to make any action in front of his or her spouse, then it is definitely a sign of spousal violence. If one partner always seems to be on toes when he or she is with the spouse, then there is something up.

Now a lot of people would be asking why the dominating partners would exhibit this kind of behavior in the first place. Well, one of the most common answers is that it is a manifestation of insecurity. The reason as to why abusive partners would hurt their spouses is simply because they do not feel good about themselves so they would take it out on their partners so they can feel like someone is below them.

Now the reason why domestic abuse is very dangerous to anyone is simply because it can cause long term effects emotionally. It can make a person lose confidence in himself or herself and may actually affect their personality in general. It is for this main reason that this sort of activity has to stop because no one deserves such treatment.
