Portland Oregon: A Great Place to do Business

By Edward Lisle

Looking to do some business in Portland Oregon? There are worse cities to choose from, that's for sure. DMA Portland is a recently incorporated sales and marketing company in Tigard, OR (a suburb of Portland, OR) and shard some of their insight as to why a person or company would choose to do business in Portland, OR.

Now for some general stats: Portland is the most populated city in Oregon. Not only does the city's metropolitan population near 2.3 million people, it is also ranked 3rd in all of the Pacific Northwest. The only cities that are substantially larger are the city of Seattle, WA and the Canadian brothers to the north, Vancouver, BC. How does Portland Oregon stack up nationally? It comes in 23rd, by population, in the nation.

Notable facts and nuances of Portland include the 'planet-friendly' communities, the 'weirdness' of the people and activities, and the use of the land. To the North, Seattle has many nifty history factoids, but Portland Oregon has its own as well! For instance - Portland was founded near the Oregon Trails endpoint (makes sense).

As stated above, the cleanliness of city is definitely to be noted. When people visit Portland Oregon for the first time, they are blown away at how many people care about the environment and their surroundings. Not to mention, the city itself has been named one the most GREEN communities in the world.

The use of the land has been noted several times in various publications and makes use of the city's vast and well incorporated public transportation systems. The city has done tremendous planning for the light rail which several commuters obviously enjoy.

The 'weird' title is actually quite humorous. There is actually a comedic show on TV right now called "Portlandia" in which the producers depict Portland Oregon as weirder than it actually is (there are NORMAL people living in Portland). The weirdness factor is contributed to by the vast amount of people wearing skinny jeans and black-rimmed glasses rolling around on skateboards, unique coffee shops, and the numerous amounts of microbreweries. Portland has not officially endorsed the phrase 'Keeping Portland Weird,' but it is well known and publicized.

According to DMA Portland, they chose Portland as a place to start the company due to the fantastic vibe of the city and the number of talented employees. With a metro population of nearly 2.3 million, DMA Portland is able to recruit more top talent. The bigger the candidate pool, the more 'choosy' you can be.

The company DMA Portland is intent on training workers to be the future of the company. There are many benefits of working for a small company in Portland Oregon vs a large corporation. If you think from a 'value added' standpoint, much can be gained from helping a company grow and develop. Although it requires more work and sometimes longer hours to grow a company, the rewards at the end of the tunnel are a lot more appealing to the entrepreneurial-minded individual.

DMA Portland opened its doors with only a few employees and has grown tremendously since then. It turns out that Portland Oregon is full of entrepreneurial-minded individuals who are willing to put forth the work to see the fruits of their labor later down the road. How has the company grown so quickly? Its primarily due to the teamwork and cooperation of the individuals within the company. Portland OR has many great happy hour places that help the employees meet and brainstorm new ideas and innovative improvements on systems. Employees are able to build stronger bonds around some cheap eats and drinks, you know? Teamwork and cooperation has been a major key in the company's success.

So if you are just visiting Portland Oregon for business purposes, maybe to do some sales or something, enjoy! However, if you are looking to relocate or expand your current operations, Portland Oregon is a great place to do business.
