How To Design Your Web Site

By Daniel Will

Do you desire to be a great web designer? Do you know what your goals are, but have no idea how you're going to achieve them? If this is the case then you have come to the right place because this article will help you with learning all the things you should learn about designing a website.

When shopping for hosting for your site, review all of the features of each plan before settling on one. Disk space, bandwidth and CPU usage are some of the things you need information about. Have an idea what is being offered.

Perform a thorough error check of your site, including checking for broken links. Do this often, and especially before uploading any of it to the server. Broken links are one reason for web visitors to leave a site. To avoid this, check to make sure everything works.

Make your own favicon. This teeny-tiny graphic will make it easier for people to recognize and bookmark your site. When your visitor wants to return to your website, your unique favicon will stand out among other bookmarked sites. When designing a favicon, ensure it's consistent with the logo and theme of your site.

Try and get some books which can help you be a better web designer. Stick to books for beginning web designers until you've mastered the basics, so that you won't miss anything you need to know as you study web design.

Draw out some sketches of what you want your website to look like. You can get an idea of how people are going to react to your sketches by asking friends and family what they think of your drafts, from this you can draw conclusions on what direction you should be going in for your site.

Don't have pop-ups. Nothing is worse that going to a website and being bombarded with pop-up ads. The majority of people will leave a site if it contains pop-ups, even if these sites are very large ones. Avoid annoying your customers, by staying away from these irritating advertisements. Any host which requires you to have pop-up ads is a host you don't want to use!

Put together a nice page about you or your organization and title it "About" or "About Us." Dry or simplistic content won't get your reader interested. Try to write this content in an entertaining way. Try giving people a tiny peek into your personal background. Try showing how you got into web design, who inspired you, and what you hope to accomplish with your business.

Becoming a professional web designer will not put you through the same rigors of medical school. You will not be required to obtain an advanced degree, nor will you be saving lives everyday. If you can follow all the suggestions outlined above, you will be able to design a great looking website.
