Locating Your Microsoft Windows Product Key

By Jim Paulson

Much of the software that we use comes with some sort of protection to stymie efforts at piracy. On occasion, we may need to make use of such a Microsoft Windows Product Key or code, so we must know how to get it. Ways of getting it are outlined in the following paragraphs.

First, try to remember how your software was purchased in the first place. That will allow you to determine how to go about finding your code. The reason for this is that the location of said code is determined by the manner in which the software was purchased.

For example, the code can be found on the software casing if it was bought at a retail venue. This means it is either inside that casing or on the casing's back. Form there, it should be simple enough for you to find and then to use, either way.

If your software has already been installed on your computer when it was bought, you will still be able to find the code. This should be at the rear of your PC case. Otherwise, you can find it on the registry of the computer, where it can be copied from and used.

If the software was on an installation disc that you received with the computer, you can still find the needed code. It should either be on the disc itself or on packaging of said disc. Either way, you should be able to find it without much ado.

To conclude, then, locating your Microsoft Windows Product Key should not pose too many problems for you at all. Simply put, this is just a matter of having some inkling of where to look, which depends on what the circumstances are. To do exactly that, you will need to abide by the tips presented in the above paragraphs.
