What To Know About How To Make Kombucha

A lot of folks want to know how to make kombucha tea on their own. The popularity of the tea has grown recently due to it's healthiness. The tea offers a whole lot of probiotics, b-vitamins, and other healthy nutrients. People love this because the nutrients are great for detoxing, improving the function of the liver and improving digestion. The tea also increases energy when it is drunk over time.

While the tea begins as sugary tea, it is then fermented with a scoby (an acronym that stands for symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast). Be aware that because of the fermentation process there is about 1% of alcohol in the tea. In order to brew your own tea you will need to locate a scoby.

The hardest part of brewing the tea yourself is locating a scoby. If you know someone that makes kombucha themselves, they'll probably have a scoby you can have. This would be the simplest way of finding a scoby.

A scoby can be purchased online. It will arrive in a dehydrated form and would come with instructions on how to brew it. If you find it difficult to follow written instructions there are video tutorials that can be found online.

Of course, the option of growing your own scoby is always there. Going to the internet for tutorials on how to grow a scoby would be worthwhile. What you will need is just a bottle of organic, neutral flavored kombucha. This is an inexpensive way to acquire a scoby and can be fun, too.

Very few supplies are needed to brew the tea. You just need a gallon jar, some store bought kombucha, a scoby, a coffee filter, a gallon of brewed tea and a rubber band. You can buy these supplies in a grocery store. Some of them you may already have in your home.

You can purchase bottles of the nutrient packed drink in stores for $3-$5 per bottle. Buying the drink is probably less work and takes much less time than brewing your own, but it can get expensive. Brewing a gallon yourself will only cost you a couple of dollars. Besides, you'll get a great feeling of accomplishment when you brew it on your own.

The process for making the tea is quite simple. It just involves brewing a gallon of sweetened tea, leaving a some space at the top, cooling the tea to room temperature, adding a bit of the store bought kombucha, and tossing in the scoby. Then you just cover the bottle with a coffee filter and secure it with a rubberband. That is really all it takes. Leave the bottle in a warm place, out of direct sunlight, for 7-10 days. You can leave it up to 30 days depending on your preference. The longer it ferments, the sweeter it will be.

It's not so hard to learn how to make kombucha. Because of the tons of health benefits, it is definitely worth adding the drink to your daily diet. It has a sweet fizzy taste many folks seem to enjoy. Now, you can be one of the many people enjoying it, too.
