What You Should Know About Search Engine Optimization

By Jocelyn Dela Cruz

There is a lot to learn about search engine optimization. Although there is not enough room to write about all of it in this one article, there is a wealth of knowledge here that will get you started on making your website stand out and rank higher in the search results.

To optimize your search engine rankings, never publish the same article in more than two locations on your site. Search engines ding your ranking for duplicate content, so it is best to avoid repetition whenever possible. Use one article URL for the best results, as using multiple links for the same content weakens the power of the content for SEO purposes.

Put headline tags around webpage titles. These titles should always include important keywords. Search engines look for headline tags to determine what the content of the page is about. A good headline should have a descriptive title that alerts search engines to the main ideas presented on the page. This is a small html trick that will improve search engine results.

Communicate effectively with search engines and your customers by optimizing the title attributes of your links. Tweaking the title attributes will deliver more information about what's on the other side of that link after a click through. There are many scams out there and pages with multiple pop-ups. Surfers want to know what they're clicking, so make sure you're giving the best information you can.

Don't limit your SEO to one country. People from other countries could also be interested in your product or service, so try to get your website ranked in foreign search results. Other English speaking countries, such as Canada, England, and Australia should be the easiest to SEO your website for.

Set forums and blog comments to automatically insert the nofollow attribute into any links users create. Forum and comment spam are a constant problem, and setting nofollow on discussion pages prevents spammers from harming your own site's rank by linking to spam sites that sell dodgy products and services.

When dealing with search engine optimization for your website, you should consider using JavaScript links instead of using image buttons. In fact, you should avoid image buttons altogether and instead keep your links as pure text. For some reason, search engines prefer pure text links to image buttons so keep this in mind.

Create unique content on your site to get found. Think about what everyone else is saying in your field and say it in a different, more powerful way. You don't want to blend in and under your competitors by writing something similar to what they do. You'll probably never get found that way. Keep your writing fresh.

Add new content to your website in a consistent manner. This will keep your search engine rankings up because it will keep people coming back to your site to see what's new on your pages. Additionally, new content that is well written with SEO in mind will attract the search engine bots. Adding great content to your website is a win-win proposition all around.

To take on SEO, you really do have to understand many of the things that are involved. However, there are many ways you can find your key strategies in the process and find useful resources that you are finding to be very beneficial.
