Discovering How To Self Publish A Book

By Elba McGee

When explaining to others how to self publish a book, an individual has a number of options. These include, creating, editing and binding. Although, there are also ways to create, edit and publish through a printing service. Of course, the latter is often far more expensive as there are generally fees associated with each one produced. So, whether self publishing, dropping off at a printing service or submitting to a publisher, it is important to consider any fees associated with publication.

In addition, there is also the option of publishing an e-book which can be purchased and read online. Actually, there are even a few of these online publishers which will allow individuals free online publishing. Then, at the publications is distributed, the publisher takes a percentage of sales. After which, the remainder is forwarded to the e-book owner.

It is also important to create an eye-catching cover with the title formatted in bold. As the cover often reflects the internal being of the publication, it is important to use a design which says something about the story. This is because the cover is the first thing one sees whether in a local store or online shopping website. So, the bigger, the brighter or darker, the better.

Other things to consider when creating and self-publishing is that of a paperback or hard cover, title, shape, size, font/size, top, bottom, left and right margins, binding and weight. In addition, it is important to decide which type of paper is best suited for the project. After which, the individual can then combine all these elements to create an original manuscript.

E-publications are another option when it comes to self publishing. Although, while possible to sell different titles online, it can often be easier to sell hard copy fiction and non-fiction and poetry books in local bookstores and markets. Whereas, when trying to sell a best selling novel, the author is most likely going to need to use a service which allows one to create, edit and submit the book for e-book publishing. As authors generally have authority over setting prices for e-books, writers can either offer these e-books free of charge, or, sell for a nominal fee.

As a result, it is now easier to become a published writer than ever before in history. So, when desiring to create and market an original publication, now is definitely the time to do so. Of course, this does not mean it is the only time, as it is important to continue to create and distribute a wide variety of periodicals and other publications.

If not, then there may be no need for publishing houses or printing services in the future. In addition, the individual may also want to obtain the services of an editor to review the publication before submitting for approval. If not, it can often be easy to overlook grammatical, spelling and other errors. Whereas, when an editor can provide a review, most often the publication is going to be as close to perfect as possible.

Then, after the individual learns how to self publish a book, all that is left is to market and sell the publication whether as a hard copy, paperback or an online version. It is also during this time when it is most appropriate to set up a book tour, book signings, release parties or other associated events. Last but not least, it is important to know the cost of publishing in order to sell the book for enough to meet costs and make a small profit.
