Different Learning Styles

Each individual is unique and will process information and learn things differently than any other person on the planet. While our experiences and personalities will differ drastically from other individuals, there are some characteristics of learning that can be classified and assigned to an individual. When you search for learning styles on the internet, Wikipedia tells us that there are a minimum of 8 different modalities that break down their own 'styles' of learning. Each modality is based on research and use a variety of words to express similar ideas. For the purposes of this article, I'm going to keep it simple. There are 5 primary learning styles and an additional 2 styles that may be added to further define the learning style of an individual.

First-There is the storytelling format that is often seen in blogs and sometimes on websites. Sometimes these entail real life events or challenges that readers can relate with. This story-telling format is very similar to any storytelling in general in that it requires an ability to paint a picture for the readers. This requires a strong voice and ability to use very descriptive words to get your point across. Second-Informative copywriting is a style that requires more detail. It is often used to teach a concept or just share information. Many find this style much more dry and boring at times but with the right wording informative copy can still be exciting.

Verbal learners prefer utilizing language. Whether spoken or written, words are more easily remembered by these individuals. Physical learners much prefer the hands on approach. They love to dig in, get dirty, and use their hands to help them retain what information they feel is necessary. Logical learners prefer a more mathematical approach, solving problems and retaining required information through the use of logic, systems, and reasoning.

Fifth-"you" copy is seen a lot on the internet today. It is where the word "you" is used often in order to build a connection with the reader. This kind of copy can become repetitive sometimes so mixing styles is always an option. While these are some of the styles you may encounter while writing copy it is important to remember that it is your voice that should sell as a writer. So how do you sell your voice?

This can mean a mixture of SEO and constantly updated copywriting that paints a picture for a company. Another route a company may choose to take is writing content that is more informative and meaningful, so as to bring more reliable customers. Creative copywriters often take these harder-to-tackle-jobs on because the company is really trying to build a name and reputation, not just get their name out there. This shows the difference between quality and quantity in the virtual world.

Solitary learners fare much better when left to their own devices. They prefer to remain holed up in a private place with their books and notes. Each of these styles of learning happen in addition to the 5 primary styles mentioned above. And here's a trick for improving your memory. Always use at least 2 styles in one study session and your brain will be able to more easily access the information you are storing. As you begin to pursue your traditional or online education, try to pay attention to the way you learn and practice using the various styles to retain various bits of information.
