The Books Of Award Winning Authors

Serious readers who enjoy a really good piece of writing should take the time to seek out works by award winning authors. Every category of literature is represented, from journalism to adult fiction and even children's books. Readers can be assured they are in for a real treat as they begin to turn the pages of one of these books.

Finding a good book to read is certainly not difficult. There are so many excellent writers producing amazing new books every year that even the most avid reader will never run out of titles. It is important not to forget the authors of just a few decades ago. There work was of such high quality it will always remain on the lists of great books and continue to be read in schools and homes all over the country.

With so many great works to choose from readers should decide which genre most interests them. Those who typically read the newspaper every day may like the investigative journalism of The Washington Post. This highly acclaimed publication has published many stories over the years that have rocked the nation and prompted social change. The Pulitzer Prize for journalism is a huge honor that is fought over by journalists every year. Past winners include Dana Priest, who wrote about the government handling of humanitarian issues.

The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg was the Medal winner in 1986. This beautiful story became an instant holiday classic that has delighted children for well over a decade. It proved so popular that an equally beautiful film version was made recently. This has also added to the appeal of the book and many thousands of children have fond memories of this book as their favorite bedtime story.

John Steinbeck is revered as one of the greatest of American authors. He wrote about social issues that still ring true with readers today. His works include The Red Pony and The Grapes of Wrath. Much of Steinbeck's work focuses on family dynamics and struggles. Many of his main characters are faced with devastating circumstances that are beyond their control. They work hard to keep things as they want them, but life and fate conspire to overwhelm them.

One of the greatest American writers of the past century is John Steinbeck. This prolific writer produced many notable works that are still in demand today. Although the stories may seem dated their message is timeless. The struggles of simple human beings to survive in adverse circumstances rings true today. In 1940 The Grapes of Wrath won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction and Steinbeck some much needed publicity.

One of America's greatest writers is still Ernest Hemingway. This larger than life character traveled the world and lived the type of life many people can only dream of. His books reflect this and have enthralled readers every since. He managed to incorporate much of the excitement of his own experiences into his characters and settings.

Lee wrote the book at a time when tensions were already running high and it helped to rally behind the cause. It is the perfect example of how award winning authors have helped to influence history. No one should ever underestimate the power of literature.
