How To Work Well With A Study Group

By Hedrick Lepsch

When it comes to school, we are all able to learn from a wide variety of subjects and with many different professors and classmates. Because you will be exposed to so much different information, it is clear that sometimes your class materials will be clear to you, and sometimes you may have difficulty with understanding and applying the information you are trying to learn.

As you address your ability to do well in each specific class you take, it is a good idea to decide on good studying strategies for each course. As you look for ways to study your many different subjects, it may be a good idea to consider starting a study group with a few others in your class.

Students are increasingly asked to only 'think critically' about a problem or idea. "Critical thinking is the active, persistent, and careful consideration of a belief or form of knowledge, the grounds that support it, and the conclusions that follow. It involves analyzing and evaluating one's own thinking and that of others."

When it comes to starting your study group, remember to find students who have similar class related goals. Working with students who are all committed to success is the best way to work synergistically as a group. With your united goals, you and the others in your group will all be able to perform better and teach and learn from each other.

One of the first things that a person who is striving to organize their day and properly manage their time should understand is that inevitably, no matter how well they plan out their day and schedule their time slots, there will be interruptions to that schedule due to various events and occurrence. This interrupting of one's time table should not only be expected, but it should be all but accounted for.

In other words, a person who truly understands how to manage their time will not fill every waking moment with activities and needful actions because they understand that at least once throughout their day something will come up that will throw kinks into their well laid plans.

From Galileo and Aristotle to Albert Einstein and Jean-Paul Sarte, all of these men broke with the traditions and 'rules' of their current day. Each used critical thinking to understand the foundation of knowledge for their day. Then, employing creative thinking, they were able to revolutionize and in some cases overturn centuries of inaccurate information. Creative thinking allows the mind to free itself of the boundaries set by our cultural knowledge base to find a new perspective of our world. The potential to create something unique and new exists in every single school of study or thought whether academic, scientific, or artistic in origin.

No matter what you are studying, from web design and development to business or English, your education will improve your future and your life. Using study groups effectively can help you to finish your degree confidently and successfully.

As you harness your education, be smart and study effectively. Find your best way to study and stick to it. But, don't be afraid of a variety. Remember to manage your stress and to perform at your top form.
