Yahoo! PPC - How to Achieve Outstanding Results

By Kathrine Brown

PPC, or pay per click, advertising is feared by many marketers even though there is no reason for it. Then there is the Google Adwords PPC program, but their various policy changes have created a lot of negative feelings with many online marketers. On the other hand, Yahoo! Search Marketing gives you all that AdWords offers, but with less competition and lower bid prices. So we will talk about what you need to know with Yahoo PPC advertising.

One of the things that makes Google AdWords such a difficult program to start with is the fact that they don't allow you to use direct affiliate links in your ads. Yahoo's policies do not prohibit the use of direct linking in your PPC campaigns - Google: 0, Yahoo: 1. This is especially useful when you're a beginner and don't want to mess around with creating a landing page, or worry about duplicate URLs. You can easily use this feature to test out new affiliate offers before putting in the effort to create your own landing page. But this is really nothing new as far as using PPC ads, and this is a long-time practice at Yahoo. Besides this, you can also test out multiple versions of your landing pages to find a high converting one by leveraging the direct linking feature. In order to get the most out of your Yahoo! experience, ensure that you're focused on the results, rather than spending too much time preparing and analyzing.

Changing Ad Group Optimized Text Settings Should Be Observed : You who should be taking the reins in whatever campaigns you run. Allowing Yahoo! to optimize your ad texts should not be done if you would also want to take command over the ad text testing of your groups as well. Make sure to change the setting which by default was already set in place when you launch a new ad group. If you wish to see the whole list of your ad groups, check out any of your campaigns. All you have to do is check the entire ad groups that you come across and hit the "Optimize Ads" link in the preferences. You'll be able to turn off the ad optimization here.

Deactivate the Content Network: In truth, Yahoo! content network is not up to par for running your ads; thus, the possibility of you getting agreeable results is somewhat a remote possibility. It's not a wise option when you're thinking of actually seeing a good return on your investment. There are many advertisers who try out the Yahoo! content network, but end up seeing no positive results. When you run your ad on the content network here, you may see quick rise in clicks, but there are no actual relevant conversions, which may be regarded as invalid clicks. That's why as a knowledgeable PPC marketer, you should click off the content network on Yahoo! - it's definitely not the same as the content network of Google. Better adhere to the regular search campaigns and you'll be on the safe side.

One problem you might encounter when running Yahoo! PPC campaigns is click fraud as it is becoming more and more common. For this reason, you need to have some tracking system in place, such as the most popular free option - Google Analytics. Yahoo! also provides a tracking feature known as "Easy Track" which should be switched on as a backup.
